Born in 1973, Cécile Vernant grew up in Martinique. After a degree in English and American Literature, she entered the acting school « Cours Florent », worked as an actress, then decided to work on both sides of the camera.
- Spin The Bottle (2004) won a contest on Canal+ and went to a dozen film festivals (Genève, Bruxelles etc...)
- The Dinner (2006) was screened at more than 150 festivals in France and abroad (Palm Springs, New-York, Berlin…) and won 30 awards (Best European Film at Roma Independant Film festival, Best actress at Larissa Film Festival etc…). Awarded for the UIP prize in Valladolid, The Dinner was nominated at the European Film Awards 2007
- Once upon a time…Sasha and Desire (2006)  was awarded for the HOHOA prize during Cannes International Film Festival (Critic’s week). A romance based on the true story of her grand-parents : the encounter of a Jewish Russian girl and a Martinican boy, in the 30’s. This movie was selected in 31 festivals (Telluride, London images of Black women, Cannes Panafrican Film Festival etc…) and received 11 awards including the Best European film at New-York / Avignon Film Festival.
- WU, her last short was completed in 2009, January. It’s been selected in a dozen a festival (inclued Tribeca) and received several awards.
